Your place in the market

Start with the questions that remove bad fits

Map the tools, port sizes, simultaneous use, shop layout, electrical supply, waste and maintenance routine first

New to this marketBegin with the constraint that changes the whole shortlist

Which machines, hood designs and actual port sizes must be served, and will any run at the same time?

01

Before the shortlist

The first four answers do most of the work

A useful ranking starts only after the constraints specific to this market are clear.

  1. 01

Which machines, hood designs and actual port sizes must be served, and will any run at the same time?

  2. 02

Is the system point-of-use with flexible hose or fixed to a larger duct network?

  3. 03

Which voltage, phase, circuit, footprint, height, noise and bin-removal path can the shop support?

  4. 04

Who will clean filters, inspect seals, empty waste and obtain bags, liners, filters and service parts?

02

Market language

The terms a useful comparison should define

Static pressure
Resistance the blower must overcome through hoods, hose, duct, fittings, separators and filters; free-air CFM does not describe performance against it
High pressure
A collector branch designed for greater resistance and smaller ports, often at lower total airflow than a large-port dust collector
Cyclone
A separator that removes much of the material before the final filter, while the filter and waste system still require maintenance
Filter loading
Dust accumulated on filter media, which can change resistance and airflow between clean and maintained operating states
