Market guide

Map the building and topology

Design the network before selecting a pack

Mesh performance belongs to a building, node layout, backhaul and client mix. A square-foot figure cannot see masonry, metal, radiant barriers, floor systems, interference or the location of the internet handoff.

01

Map

Draw the internet and client locations

Mark the modem or ONT, office, media equipment, cameras, outdoor edges, weak areas and devices that can use Ethernet. Add walls, floors and major radio obstacles.

Priority
Separate places that need dependable work or camera links from places that only need light browsing.
Cable
Document Ethernet, coax and realistic new cable routes before choosing wireless backhaul.
02

Nodes

Use the fewest well-placed nodes

Nodes need a strong path to the gateway or upstream node as well as proximity to clients. Too many can add contention and unpredictable roaming.

Place
Keep nodes open, elevated and away from large metal, dense utilities and enclosed cabinets where practical.
Sequence
Begin with the gateway, measure, add one node and measure again.
03

Boundary

Do not promise speed or coverage

Wi-Fi generation, rate class, MLO and area claims describe supported features or test conditions. Client radios, region, firmware, interference, channels and building materials set the result.

Client
List the Wi-Fi generation, band and maximum link capability of the important devices.
ISP
Keep internet speed, local-network speed and one-device Wi-Fi throughput as separate measurements.
