Diode, CO2, fiber or UV
Let the material and process choose the laser sourceLaser power cannot be compared across unlike sources as if it were one ladder. Wavelength, optics and pulse behavior decide which materials absorb the energy and whether the useful result is cutting, surface marking, color, depth or fine cold processing.
Organic work
Diode and CO2 serve different sheets
Blue diode machines handle many woods, papers, leathers and compatible dark acrylics. CO2 expands cutting speed and includes clear acrylic, while adding optics, cooling and tube ownership.
- Samples
- Require cuts in the exact thickness and color.
- Edge
- Inspect char, melt, taper and cleanup rather than pass or fail alone.
Metals
Fiber and MOPA are marking systems
Fiber galvos mark many bare metals quickly in a compact field. MOPA pulse control can widen color and contrast options. Neither behaves like a large sheet cutter.
- Alloy
- Test the exact metal and finish.
- Fixture
- Include focus and holding time in the cycle.
Special surfaces
UV earns its place on difficult materials
UV can produce fine, low-heat marks on glass and polymers that respond poorly to visible diode or fiber energy. Its specialized source and small field demand a specific product case.
- Boundary
- Do not buy UV as a vague do-everything upgrade.
- Proof
- Approve production samples before purchase.
