A dual boiler gives brew and steam their own temperature control. A heat exchanger uses one steam boiler to heat brew water as it passes through. The practical difference appears in how often you change coffee, how many milk drinks you make, and how much warm-up and temperature management you accept.

Make the decision
Compare the first drink and the fourth drink
Heat-up claims often describe one readiness point. Ask when the group and portafilter are ready, how the machine signals a flush, and whether steam performance remains suitable through the number of drinks you actually make.
- First drink
- Count power-on, any required flush, grinding, preparation, extraction, milk, and cleanup.
- Fourth drink
- Check recovery, reservoir volume, drip-tray capacity, and how much attention the sequence needs.
- Counter fit
- Measure depth with the portafilter installed and clearance needed to refill the water tank.
