Heat, sensors and profile control
Understand what the machine applies, measures and repeatsDrum contact, hot air and radiant energy move heat into coffee differently. Sensors observe parts of that system with delay and placement effects. A useful control system helps the operator make and repeat sensory decisions rather than producing a more impressive graph.
Heat
Name the controllable energy paths
Induction drums, resistance heaters, infrared elements, halogen sources and moving air can expose different controls. Similar curves do not guarantee identical heat transfer or flavor.

Sensors
A probe is a view, not the coffee
Small charges can move around probes and respond quickly. Infrared, bean, exhaust, inlet and humidity readings each describe different parts of the roast environment.
- Compare
- Do not transfer a temperature target blindly between machines.
- Maintain
- Clean and verify sensors on the maker's schedule.
Repeat
Return to a known starting state
Back-to-back consistency depends on preheat, environmental conditions, between-batch timing, chaff and the machine's stored heat. Software repetition cannot correct an uncontrolled starting state.

- Document preheat, charge, environmental and reset conditions.
- Verify
- Cup repeated batches and track roast color and weight loss.
