Motion, spindle and control
Treat frame mechanics, cutter power and software as connected but separate systemsBall screws, belts, rails and tubes describe motion. The spindle creates cutting force. The controller and CAM decide how that force is commanded. No single specification represents the complete machine.

Motion
Rigidity must survive the full envelope
Frame, support table, gantry span, bearings and drives deflect together. A large lightly supported machine can be less useful than a smaller rigid one.
- Table
- Level and fasten the base as the maker specifies.
- Test
- Inspect a demanding cut at the far corners.

Spindle
Power needs speed, collets and a circuit
Trim routers are accessible and loud. VFD spindles add speed control, larger collets and wiring. Water cooling adds a coolant system.
- Voltage
- Confirm every spindle and dust load on the panel.
- Runout
- Measure tool and collet condition before blaming motion.

Control
Preserve a complete software path
CAD, CAM, post processor, sender, controller and firmware must agree. Cloud convenience or standalone control can each become a dependency.
- Export
- Keep source files, tool libraries and G-code where safe.
- Recovery
- Practice pause, restart and power-loss procedures.
