Compare studio monitor architecture and calibration

Compare topology, signal path, correction tools and latency on a common system boundary

Normalize the complete signal and calibration path before comparing curves. Analog room switches, stored DSP alignment, imported correction profiles and an included measurement microphone impose different hardware, software, latency and offline boundaries.

Architecture

Compare drivers, enclosure and orientation together

Two-way, MTM, coaxial and three-way arrangements distribute bandwidth and directivity differently. Ports, passive radiators, sealed modes and transmission lines also change placement and low-frequency behavior without making one architecture universally accurate.

MTM geometry has an axis
Each IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII cabinet places two small woofers around its tweeter. Its vertical orientation, listening height and supplied stand angle are part of the measured system.
A rotatable waveguide has limits
The ADAM A7V supports documented tweeter-waveguide rotation, but changing orientation still changes room interaction and requires placement and calibration to be checked again.

Signal

Distinguish audio, control and calibration connections

An XLR can carry analog audio or AES/EBU, an RCA can carry analog or S/PDIF and an RJ45 can be proprietary control rather than network audio. Trace every connector to the exact source, clock, controller and software.

GLM control is not Ethernet audio
The Genelec 8330A uses analog and AES/EBU audio plus separate GLM control ports. Automatic GLM measurement also needs the controller and microphone kit unless the buyer already owns it.
Model suffix can change the audio network
The standard Neumann KH 120 II provides analog and S/PDIF audio with network control. It does not inherit AES67 program audio from the separately named KH 120 II AES67 model.

Calibration

Write down required hardware, software and latency

Record measurement microphone, adapter, license, computer and OS, profile storage, firmware, account behavior and latency for every proposed workflow. Confirm whether audio still operates from stored settings when software or internet access is absent.

Included and supported are different
The iLoud MTM MKII Pair includes an ARC microphone. The A7V supports imported SoundID Reference profiles, but compatible measurement hardware and software licensing remain separate.
Correction cannot create headroom
Calibration can adjust supported level and timing parameters. It cannot fill deep cancellation nulls, reduce room decay, remove desk obstruction, increase driver displacement or guarantee translation.
