Compare open, closed, planar and dynamic studio headphones

Compare acoustic design, measurements, drive demand, fit, service parts and price on a consistent task

Normalize the task, listener, pad condition, source and level before comparing measurements or driver types. Open and closed construction changes room interaction and leakage; planar and dynamic labels do not determine tonal accuracy, comfort or translation.

Acoustics

Compare the same coupling state

Use independent measurements that state fixture, pad, position and normalization. Then listen with the actual wearer, because seal, glasses and placement can move bass and high-frequency balance more than a small chart difference.

Closed bass depends on seal
AKG K371 can change substantially on narrow heads, glasses or worn pads. A target-based tuning claim does not guarantee identical coupling.
Open does not mean neutral
Neumann NDH 30 removes tracking isolation and enclosure behavior, but its response, distortion, fit and learned reference remain model-specific.

Driver

Treat driver type as engineering context

Compare measured distortion, sensitivity basis, impedance, required source power, weight and serviceability. Do not infer transient response, bass extension or preferred sound from planar or dynamic architecture alone.

Planar current and weight are real
Audeze MM-100 combines low impedance, stated power guidance and 475 g mass. A common interface may reach volume while still needing noise, clipping and comfort tests.
Dynamic systems span many loads
DT 700 PRO X uses 48 ohms and a detachable cable, while other dynamic studio designs reach 120, 150 or 250 ohms. The label does not choose the amplifier.

Ownership

Compare wear parts and translation practice

Price pads, headband, cables, adapters and regional service. New pads change coupling and should trigger a fresh level and reference check. Keep speakers or another headphone as a second decision surface.

Pads are calibration state
Beyerdynamic and Neumann support replacement parts, but renewed pad height can change response from the worn reference the listener learned.
Translation is a workflow
No measurement, correction profile or professional label guarantees that decisions carry to other systems. Use references, level control and deliberate cross-checks.
