Market guide

Compare PTZ video, protocols and control

Compare exact output modes, network transports and operator controls as one chain

A PTZ system can carry video over SDI, HDMI, USB or Ethernet while using separate or shared paths for control, power and discovery. Normalize those paths before comparing feature lists. NDI, NDI HX, SRT and RTMP are not interchangeable labels.

01

Video

Build an exact mode and connector table

The Panasonic AW-UE50 carries 4K30 through HDMI and supported IP paths while its 3G-SDI path is HD. The Canon CR-N300 follows a similar 4K30 HDMI and IP, HD SDI split. Read simultaneous-output, HDR, color and frame-rate limits rather than assuming every connector carries the headline mode.

Baseband has cable limits
SDI and HDMI avoid an IP codec path, but format, cable type, run length, conversion, reclocking and downstream input support still need an acceptance test.
IP has a decode boundary
A listed stream means little until the exact receiver, license, codec profile, bitrate, audio and latency work at every destination.
02

Protocols

Distinguish the named transport and license

The CR-N300 documents NDI HX, SRT and other compressed paths. The standard Sony SRG-A40 does not inherit NDI from a separately sold NDI configuration. Confirm the exact SKU, current firmware and concurrent-stream limits before designing around a logo.

NDI and NDI HX differ
They have different compression, bandwidth and latency behavior. A generic NDI label does not establish which one the camera or receiver supports.
SRT and RTMP serve different routes
SRT can support resilient contribution between configured endpoints, while RTMP often feeds a platform. Firewall, account and latency requirements remain separate.
03

Control

Test the exact controller and functions

VISCA, ONVIF, vendor IP control and browser interfaces can overlap without exposing the same presets, picture controls, tally or tracking modes. Test the selected surface with the exact Panasonic, Canon, Sony or PTZOptics firmware.

Budget power and switching together
PoE, PoE+ and PoE++ are different budgets. Reserve switch headroom for startup and full load, and keep local power available where continuity requires it.
Secure discovery and accounts
Change default credentials, segment production devices, inventory firmware and control who can discover, move, stream or update each camera.
