Commission the PTZ camera and control system
Test rigging, signal, control, network, privacy and fallback behavior before productionCommission the installed system, not the camera on a bench. Reconcile model, firmware, mount, power, video, audio, synchronization, controller, network and credentials, then run the shots and failure cases that matter to the room.
Rigging
Approve the structure and service path
Use the exact manufacturer plate and orientation on a load-rated structure, with secondary retention where specified. Protect people below, strain-relieve every cable and preserve safe access for inspection, cleaning, repair and removal.
- Test the full movement envelope
- Run pan, tilt and zoom slowly while checking cable loops, nearby fixtures, stops, vibration, ventilation and every preset. A supplied bracket does not certify the building attachment.
- Record power ownership
- Label PoE port, injector or local supply, switch budget and backup boundary. Isolate power before physical service and never depend on an undocumented cable path.
Signal
Witness every required production mode
Verify the exact resolution, frame rate, SDI or HDMI output, IP codec, audio embed, tally and any genlock or timecode path at its final destination. Higher systems such as the Canon CR-N700 or Sony BRC-AM7 still require compatible receiving and synchronization equipment.
- Load the network
- Measure all intended streams together, including discovery, control and recording. Confirm switch power, throughput, multicast behavior, decoder load, latency and recovery after interruption.
- Rehearse tracking failure
- Cross subjects, change lighting and occlude the target. Confirm an operator can stop or correct tracking and recall a safe wide shot without disrupting the show.
Handoff
Control firmware, credentials and fallback
Record model, serial, firmware, IP address, controller profile, licenses, administrator, streaming accounts, privacy settings, known-good presets, configuration backup, support route and an update test plan.
- Protect captured people
- Limit who can view, move or stream the camera, review cloud and platform retention and disclose recording or tracking where policy or law requires it.
- State the production boundary
- Commissioning finds observable faults. It cannot guarantee image quality, tracking, protocol compatibility, network continuity, latency, privacy, rigging safety or audience experience.
