Compare photo-printer ink, feed, color and ownership
Compare ink chemistry, channels, feeds, profiles, software, maintenance and serviceCompare the complete output system, not cartridge count alone. Normalize printer, ink set, media, feed path, driver or RIP, profile, viewing light, cleaning waste and service before assigning value to dye, pigment, optimizer or black-channel claims.
Ink
Choose chemistry for the real media
Compare dye or pigment, channel count, matte and photo black handling, optimizer, cartridge or tank inventory and the exact papers supported by profiles and permanence evidence.
- More channels are not automatic accuracy
- Canon PRO-200S dye and PRO-310 pigment systems solve gloss, black density and media behavior differently. Channel count cannot replace a correct profile and maintained nozzle state.
- Permanence is a tested system
- Ink name alone does not establish display life. Paper, coating, environment, glazing, pollutants, light dose and test method govern any bounded permanence claim.
Color
Assign the color-management chain
Name who controls application settings, profile, rendering intent, driver or RIP, operating system, monitor, soft proof, instrument, target values and viewing light.
- One component should manage color
- Disable duplicate application and driver conversion. A correct ICC profile can still fail when the media type, black path, nozzle state or source space is wrong.
- Verification needs a tolerance
- PRO-1100 and other fine-art systems can support disciplined output, but the studio must define an acceptance target and inspect or measure under controlled light.
Ownership
Price feed, cleaning and service
Include full ink inventory, maintenance tanks, cleaning consumption, paper loss, storage cycles, nozzle checks, firmware, driver support, freight, cutter care and authorized service.
- Low purchase price can carry cartridge cost
- Epson XP-15000 is a distinct ownership branch from tank or large-cartridge systems. Compare cost per accepted print at the actual size and coverage rather than a nominal page yield.
- Cleaning protects a process, not uptime
- Regular nozzle checks and supported maintenance reduce uncertainty but do not guarantee against clogs, head failure, wasted ink, software loss or repair delays.
