Compare output, feeders and controls
Keep every performance claim attached to process, input and packageMaximum amperage is not a complete performance ranking. Compare the rated working point, duty cycle, arc modes, feeder and torch ecosystem under the conditions the shop will actually use.
Output
Compare rated points and duty cycle
Read output range and duty at the same process, input voltage, phase and ambient condition. Use the relevant wire, electrode or tungsten size and thickness range instead of the highest number on the case.
- Duty
- Duty cycle is arc-on time in a ten-minute period under its stated conditions.
- Thermal
- A shutdown protects the machine within its design but does not prove the process or shop schedule is appropriate.
Feeding
Price the complete wire and torch path
Verify drive-roll sizes, spool capacity, wire diameter, polarity changes, liner, gun connector, push-pull or spool-gun support and whether an external feeder is required.
- Consumables
- Confirm regional tips, nozzles, liners, rolls, torches and repair parts before standardizing.
- Gas
- Retain the exact gas and regulator requirements for each qualified mode.
Controls
Treat pulse and synergic modes as bounded tools
Record supported wires, gases, diameters, input and firmware for each pulse or synergic program. A named mode does not guarantee weld quality, reduced fume or acceptable heat input.
- Updates
- Preserve a known working version and test settings after software changes.
- Fallback
- Make sure ordinary voltage, wire speed, amperage and balance controls remain understandable when an automatic program is a poor fit.
