Verify and commission the laser system
Check the kit, each used axis and the site controls before layout beginsCommission the system at the level of the work. Confirm the exact tool and accessories, inspect transport damage, run the manual's geometry checks on a stable reference and record who controls the instrument, benchmark and recalibration decision.
Kit
Reconcile the order with the work method
Confirm the exact suffix and serial, emitted geometry and class, detector compatibility, clamp, bracket, tripod thread, remote, rod, batteries, charger, case and current manual. Do not let a shared platform battery hide a missing field component.
- Inspect before power-up
- Check windows, housing, pendulum lock, cage, threads, battery contacts, detector display, clamp and case for transport damage or contamination.
- Protect the reference
- Choose stable check marks or a benchmark, record their location and stop work if the tool, tripod or reference is disturbed.
Check
Test the axes and modes that will be used
Run the manufacturer procedure at a sufficient distance. For a three-plane tool, check horizontal, vertical and square relationships. For a rotary, check both axes and receiver reference before setting a manual slope.
- Respond to impacts
- Ingress and drop claims do not preserve calibration. Isolate and recheck a tool after a fall, severe vibration, temperature shock or unexplained discrepancy.
- Escalate failed checks
- Do not open the optics or compensate by moving layout marks. Use the maker's calibration or service path and retain the failure and return record.
Control
Handoff the safe operating boundary
Name trained operators, establish the beam path, keep the projection out of occupied eyes and traffic, secure mounts and power down or shutter the laser when idle. Viewing glasses supplied for visibility are not automatically protective eyewear.
- Reconcile slope to the plan
- A dual-slope rotary setting must be checked against known elevations and the designed rise over run. The control remains the plan and benchmark, not the keypad.
- Record the no-survey boundary
- A commissioned construction laser supports checked layout. It does not establish survey control or guarantee grade, plumb, square, safety, productivity, code compliance or the finished result.
