Compare range, accuracy, detectors and mounts

Compare the complete supported setup at the distance and tolerance of the work

Accuracy belongs to a measurement condition, not to a brand name. Read the stated tolerance and distance, then include the receiver, clamp, tripod, grade rod, bracket, substrate and field-check method that will carry that tolerance into the work.

01

Accuracy

Normalize every claim to its basis

Bosch publishes ±1/8 inch at 30 feet for the GCL165-42GL. DEWALT publishes ±1/16 inch at 30 feet for the DCLE34033D1. A tighter number matters only when the same axis, distance, environment and field method describe the job.

Check every used geometry
Horizontal reversal, vertical plumb, point coincidence, 90-degree intersection and rotary X and Y axes are different checks. Passing one does not clear the rest.
Record the marks
A dated check at the working distance before critical layout and after a fall or temperature shock is more useful than a visual claim that the line still looks straight.
02

Receiver

Match detector, pulse mode and reference

Receiver compatibility is exact. The correct detector must recognize the emitted color and pulse or rotary behavior, clamp securely to the rod and expose a known reference offset. A detector cannot rescue an unsupported line laser.

Treat range as a system rating
Quote detector-assisted distance only with the named compatible receiver and the stated diameter or radius, not as naked-eye visibility.
Verify the reference zero
Receiver notch, clamp position, grade-rod units and fine/coarse sensitivity can each introduce a field error even when the laser axis is within tolerance.
03

Mounting

Budget the support hardware and its error

Magnetic brackets are convenient indoors, while 1/4-20 and 5/8-11 threads connect different support systems. Rotary work may also need a stable tripod and readable grade rod that the advertised kit does not include.

The mount can dominate
Loose fine adjustment, a slipping magnet, an unstable tripod, floor vibration or a flexible wall can move more than the laser's published tolerance.
Compare exact packages
Confirm tool, detector, clamp, remote, tripod, rod, wall mount, batteries, charger and case. Similar model names can conceal a bare tool and a complete field kit.
