01

Before the shortlist

The first four answers do most of the work

A useful ranking starts only after the constraints specific to this market are clear.

  1. 01

What access, pipe diameters, materials, traps, offsets, deposits and maximum reach must the camera pass and retrieve through?

  2. 02

How much flexibility or push authority is needed, and which head size, guide, sonde frequency and footage or pitch data are useful for the work?

  3. 03

Which monitor, recording, storage, Wi-Fi, batteries, charger, locator and reporting tools are included rather than separate?

  4. 04

Who owns line preparation, contamination control, chemical review, traffic and excavation coordination, confined-space decisions, repair and stuck-camera recovery?

Market language

The terms a useful comparison should define

Push rod
The semi-rigid cable used to advance and retrieve the camera; diameter and stiffness affect bend passage, push distance, buckling and retrieval risk
Self-leveling head
A camera assembly that keeps the displayed image upright; it does not measure surveyed pipe grade or guarantee complete defect visibility
Sonde
A small transmitter in the camera head that a compatible locator can detect; signal and depth remain affected by soil, utilities, structure, orientation and calibration
TruSense or pitch data
Camera and monitor telemetry that can add image or tilt context, not a surveyed slope, diagnosis, excavation authorization or code result
