Match the camera to access, bends and reach
Choose cable, head and guide geometry from the real inspection and retrieval pathA cable-length label is not a pipe-fit result. Access size, pipe material and diameter, traps, offsets, deposits, water, prior repairs and the route back out determine whether a push camera can reach useful pipe and return without damage.
Access
Draw the pipe path before comparing reels
Record every available cleanout, fixture removal, pipe size and material, trap, branch, offset, change of direction, suspected deposit and downstream access.
- Use a representative clean path
- Clean or jet enough to expose the wall only when the pipe, chemical and work procedure allow it. A dirty or water-filled image cannot establish pipe condition.
- Keep alternative access open
- A shorter insertion from another cleanout can be safer and more informative than forcing a longer reel through a trap or damaged fitting.
Cable
Balance bend passage against push authority
Thin flexible cable and a small head can negotiate tighter geometry, while stiffer cable can push farther in larger lines but may refuse traps or sharp offsets.
- Minimum bend is conditional
- Published bend radius and pipe range do not account for roots, grease, scale, offsets, broken fittings, standing water or a worn cable.
- Plan retrieval at insertion
- Use the correct guide, control slack and stop at unusual resistance. Never spin, jerk, tie off or use the camera as a clearing or lifting tool.

Price the complete usable package
Confirm the reel, exact head, guides, monitor, batteries, charger, AC supply, storage, cable, sonde and transport case rather than comparing a bare reel with a working kit.
- Head and cable are service items
- Ask where the cable can be reterminated, the head repaired and the reel cleaned, and what freight or downtime the warranty excludes.
- No specification guarantees passage
- Reach, bend, head size and operator experience cannot guarantee insertion, retrieval, complete visibility, diagnosis or a professional outcome.
