Compare monitor, sonde and reporting workflows
Treat viewing, locating, footage, recording, data and repair as one field workflowThe camera reel does not work alone. Head orientation, lighting, sonde, counter, monitor, recording, storage, Wi-Fi, batteries, locator and report handoff must operate together under wet, contaminated and time-sensitive field conditions.

Separate image orientation from pipe measurement
A self-leveling head can keep the view upright and HDR can retain more highlight detail, but water, debris, motion, glare, deposits and camera position still limit visibility.
- Pitch is not surveyed grade
- Tilt or pitch telemetry reports the camera's orientation under named conditions. It does not prove continuous pipe slope, code compliance or the cause of a low area.
- Lighting needs a clean lens
- More LEDs cannot see through grease, opaque water or a smeared window. Inspect and clean only with approved methods before interpreting the image.
Locate
Keep sonde, footage and excavation decisions separate
A 512 Hz sonde and footage counter can narrow the search, while soil, utilities, structure, depth, orientation, calibration and cable slip can move the apparent point.
- Use a compatible locator
- Confirm frequency, calibration, signal strength and a repeatable peak from more than one direction. The locator is a separate maintained instrument.
- Call 811 before digging
- A sonde response does not replace utility notification, records, surface marks, potholing, survey, permits or a safe excavation plan.
Record
Prove the field-to-customer data path
Test video, stills, voice notes, storage, filenames, Wi-Fi, app export, battery change and report delivery without assuming every monitor or reel combination exposes the same functions.
- Retain raw context
- Record access point, direction, footage reference, head and reel, date and pipe conditions so a clip is not detached from how it was obtained.
- A recording is evidence, not diagnosis
- Video and reports do not guarantee defect detection, cause, exact underground location, repair scope, code result or customer acceptance.
