Match the torque tool to range, angle and workflow

Choose from the approved procedure, normal working range and record need

Begin with the fastening or verification procedure. Target, tolerance, direction, units, access, angle steps, fastener condition and required records determine whether the right system is an electronic wrench, a torque-and-angle tool or an analyzer station.

Range

Keep normal targets inside the supported accuracy band

A wrench's displayed range can be wider than the portion carrying the published accuracy claim. Read minimum and maximum, calibration points, clockwise and counterclockwise claims and whether error is stated as percent of reading or full scale.

Do not size to one maximum
Choose a tool whose routine targets sit comfortably inside its controlled range. A 15 to 300 in-lb Snap-on ATECH1FS300 serves a different procedure than a 10 to 100 ft-lb TEKTON TRQ81122.
Direction remains material
A bidirectional ratchet does not prove equal accuracy in both directions. Confirm the certificate and manual for the direction the procedure uses.

Function

Separate torque, angle and powered rundown

Torque-and-angle wrenches can measure rotation after a threshold, while the Milwaukee 2465-20 powers rundown to a configured pre-torque and then measures the operator's final pull. The 2465-20 is not an angle wrench.

Angle has operating limits
Rotation speed, reset behavior, multiple sweeps and tool movement affect an angle result. The reading does not directly measure clamp load.
Alerts do not stop overshoot
Lights, sound and vibration help the operator approach a target. They do not brake a hand pull or correct a poor socket, off-axis load or moving joint.

Role

Do not confuse tightening with verification

A digital wrench applies and measures torque in a fastening workflow. A bench or portable analyzer checks a torque tool through a transducer and controlled reaction fixture. Neither role automatically creates a calibration service.

Start with the procedure owner
The tool cannot select target, lubricant, sequence, reuse, angle or acceptance limits. Resolve those inputs before shopping.
No tool guarantees the joint
Torque and angle do not by themselves establish clamp load, joint integrity, fastener condition, engineering adequacy, regulatory acceptance or injury prevention.
