Current market guide

Professional digital oscilloscopes

Current professional bench, portable and PC-based digital oscilloscopes, with exact channel and bandwidth configuration, sample rate, memory, ADC and noise conditions, triggering and update behavior, probes and input loading, decode licenses, export, calibration, reference safety and explicit limits on measurement and diagnosis outcomes

Your place in the market

Start with the questions that remove bad fits

Start with signals, bandwidth, channels, reference conditions and the measurements that must be defended

New to this marketBegin with the constraint that changes the whole shortlist

What signal amplitude, edge speed, bandwidth, duration and event rarity must be observed?

01

Before the shortlist

The first four answers do most of the work

A useful ranking starts only after the constraints specific to this market are clear.

  1. 01

What signal amplitude, edge speed, bandwidth, duration and event rarity must be observed?

  2. 02

How many analog, digital, RF or bus channels must be acquired simultaneously?

  3. 03

Are inputs ground-referenced, differential, isolated or floating, and which exact probes make the measurement safe?

  4. 04

Which decode, memory, segmentation, export, calibration and software options must be included now?

Market language

The terms a useful comparison should define

Bandwidth
The frequency at which a scope or probe response reaches its specified attenuation, not the fastest signal it can represent without a complete rise-time analysis
Sample rate
Acquisition samples per second under a named channel and memory configuration; headline maxima may fall when more channels are active
Memory depth
Samples retained per acquisition, which trades against time span, sample rate, update speed and segmentation
Ground reference
The electrical reference of an input and probe; a normal earth-referenced probe ground cannot be clipped arbitrarily to a live node
