Compare sensors, zoning, cloud and offline control
Distinguish room priorities, actual zones and services that depend on an accountRoom sensors, duct zoning and multiple mini-split heads solve different control problems. Compare them alongside the local wall interface, stored schedules, cloud features, household permissions, privacy, subscriptions and demand-response enrollment.
Rooms
Separate sensing from independent control
A remote sensor can prioritize or average room temperature for one equipment zone, but the central system still conditions all open branches served by that call.
- Zoning needs hardware
- Independent duct zones require compatible dampers, panel, bypass or airflow design and equipment logic. A sensor package alone does not create them.
- Mini-split heads share constraints
- One IR controller per head can schedule rooms, while a shared outdoor unit may still prohibit simultaneous heating and cooling or limit combined capacity.
Service
Map local and connected functions separately
Wall setpoint and stored schedules can continue locally on many systems, while app, voice, geofence, weather, remote history, firmware and support require account, network and cloud.
- Test the offline path
- Disconnect internet and verify setpoint, mode, schedule, sensor behavior and recovery without relying on a phone screen.
- Plan account transfer
- Document household roles, installer access, linked assistants, location permission, data retention, export, deletion and what happens when the property changes hands.
Programs
Keep demand response voluntary and bounded
ENERGY STAR criteria preserve owner override, while utility programs set their own eligibility, event, credit and opt-out terms.
- Enrollment can change setpoints
- Know who can dispatch an event, how the household is notified, how to override and whether leaving the program changes rebates or service.
- No feature promises savings or comfort
- Occupancy, weather, envelope, ducts, equipment condition, setpoints, tariffs and human overrides determine household outcomes.
