01

Before the shortlist

The first four answers do most of the work

A useful ranking starts only after the constraints specific to this market are clear.

  1. 01

What width, cutout, countertop, floor, door swing, anti-tip and delivery conditions must the range fit?

  2. 02

Is the home supplied with the exact natural-gas or propane type, pressure, shutoff, connector, regulator, combustion air and electrical service the model requires?

  3. 03

Which burner sizes, grate layout, griddle, oven cavities, racks and cookware match the household's real cooking pattern?

  4. 04

What hood capture, duct, termination and make-up-air plan is required by the appliance, cooking load and local code, and who will service it locally?

Market language

The terms a useful comparison should define

Input rating
The burner's stated heat input, commonly expressed in BTU per hour; it does not by itself predict pan temperature, speed, efficiency or low-heat control
Regulator
The device that supplies gas to the range at its specified operating pressure; fuel type, inlet pressure and conversion must match the exact instructions
Sealed burner
A burner arrangement designed to limit spills entering the burner box; caps, ports, igniters and surrounding surfaces still require correct assembly and cleaning
Make-up air
Replacement air provided when a powerful hood exhausts indoor air; the need and method depend on airflow, house pressure, other combustion appliances and local code
Anti-tip device
The documented bracket or restraint that helps keep a range from tipping when weight is placed on an open door
