Choose a gas range by kitchen, fuel, ventilation and cookware
Start with fit, fuel, gas pressure, electrical service, hood, make-up air, cookware and cooking workflowChoose a gas range only after the room, fuel and ventilation are defined. Survey the opening and delivery route, have fuel type and pressure verified, map the vessels that need simultaneous burner space, and design an outdoor-vented hood and any make-up air with qualified local trades.
Kitchen
Fit the chassis and cookware
Record opening width, counter and rear conditions, depth, handle and door projection, floor level and load, anti-tip location, adjacent surfaces, delivery turns and the hood relationship.
- Thirty inches is not one fit
- GE GGS500SVSS, Samsung NX60A6511SS, LG LRGL5825F and Whirlpool WFGS7530RZ differ in control layout, rear connection space, door projection and installation conditions despite sharing a width class.
- Count usable pan positions
- Place the household's skillets, stockpots, griddle and wok on a scaled burner map. Burner count and input ratings do not prove vessel clearance, even heating or low-flame stability.
Fuel
Verify gas and electrical conditions
Have a qualified installer match natural gas or LP, inlet pressure, regulator, conversion state, shutoff, approved connector, leak test, combustion air and grounded 120 volt supply to the exact current instructions.
- Fuel conversion is model-specific
- Do not assume a kit is included or that changing orifices finishes the work. Regulator setup, burner adjustment, labeling and verification belong to the documented conversion.
- Outages require the manual
- Ignition, controls and safety behavior can change without power. Follow the exact outage procedure and never use the oven or range to heat the room.
Air
Design outdoor exhaust and make-up air
Size hood capture, mounting height, duct, termination and replacement air for the appliance, cooking load, house pressure, other combustion equipment and local code. Use the hood whenever burners or oven operate.
- Ventilation reduces exposure, not all risk
- EPA guidance links gas combustion with indoor pollutants. Maintain working CO alarms and treat odor, soot, yellow flames, headache or alarm activation as stop conditions requiring ventilation and qualified help.
- Connected features are secondary
- Confirm burner knobs and core oven controls locally before app setup. Accounts, telemetry and remote features do not guarantee cooking, temperature, indoor-air safety, reliability or service outcomes.
