Compare gas cooktop and rangetop burners, grates and service
Compare burner and pan geometry, low and high heat controls, grates, griddles, cleaning, parts and local repairCompare the complete installed cooking surface rather than total BTU. Normalize cutout, fuel, pressure, electrical supply, hood and make-up air, then compare vessel spacing, grate seams, low-flame method, griddle duties, local controls, cleaning and the access needed for ignition and valve service.
Geometry
Place real pans on the burner map
Record burner diameter and location, grate height and seams, handle clearance, center-pan overlap, wok or griddle support and access to front controls. Test the household's largest simultaneous pan set.
- Width changes spacing, not only capacity
- Bosch NGM8059UC and NGM8659UC use related five-burner concepts in different widths. The wider field can reduce overlap but requires a different counter and hood plan.
- Griddle space replaces burner space
- Thermador PCG364WD trades part of its 36-inch field for an electric griddle. Compare grease handling, electrical load, cleaning and ventilation with the meals actually cooked.
Control
Separate useful control from claims
Compare ignition, re-ignition or flame monitoring, valve steps, dual-ring or cycling behavior and how a user quickly stops each burner. Observe flame only after qualified fuel commissioning.
- Low-heat names are not pan temperatures
- Bosch FlameSelect and Thermador ExtraLow describe different control approaches. Neither guarantees simmer stability, even heat, sauce behavior or unattended safety.
- Local knobs keep the boundary clear
- Physical controls require no cooking account or cloud service. Treat any package app, registration data or connected hood as a separate privacy and ownership decision.
Ownership
Compare cleaning, recalls and specialist repair
Price grates, caps, heads, igniters, thermocouples, knobs, valves, regulators and griddle parts. Confirm cooled cleaning, LP conversion exclusions, warranty labor, travel, cabinet access and exact model and serial recall checks.
- Easy-clean labels do not promise a result
- Thermador SGSXP305TS improves access around pedestal burners, but cooked grease, cap alignment, igniters and grate weight still require documented manual work.
- Owner reports are questions, not rates
- Use owner evidence to ask about ignition, cleaning and service access, but different fuel, installation, cookware, ventilation and technician regions prevent failure or repair forecasts and do not guarantee uptime or durability.
