Choose a gas cooktop or rangetop by cutout, fuel and ventilation
Start with the counter and cabinet, fuel, gas pressure, electrical supply, cookware, outdoor hood and make-up airChoose a gas cooktop or rangetop only after the cabinet, fuel and ventilation are defined. Survey the cutout and support, verify gas type and pressure with a qualified installer, map household pans to the burner field, and design outdoor exhaust and any make-up air for the installed cooking load.
Cabinet
Choose cooktop or rangetop architecture
A shallow cooktop drops into the counter and may preserve a drawer or approved oven below. A deep rangetop occupies the cabinet face and changes support, back trim, controls, service access and hood capture.
- Measure the exact opening
- Bosch NGM3450UC uses a compact 24-inch cutout, while NGM3051UC, NGM3650UC and NGM5059UC have distinct width, depth, box and clearance requirements. Do not enlarge the counter from nominal width alone.
- Protect counter and service access
- Verify counter material and thickness, edge distance, support, clamps, combustible clearances, gas and electrical space and how the appliance can be removed without damaging cabinetry.
Fuel
Verify pressure, regulator and connection
Have a qualified installer match natural gas or supported propane conversion, inlet and manifold pressure, regulator orientation, orifices, accessible shutoff, rigid supply, approved connector and permitted leak test.
- Conversion is model-specific
- Do not assume an LP kit is included or interchangeable. Adjustment, labeling and commissioning belong to the exact manual and qualified trade.
- Power still matters
- Electronic ignition, re-ignition, flame monitoring and indicator lights need the specified grounded supply. Use only the documented outage procedure and never use an extension cord.
Air
Design capture and make-up air
Size hood width, depth, airflow at installed static pressure, duct and termination for the entire field, including front burners. Evaluate replacement air, house pressure and other combustion appliances under local code. Keep physical controls local, document any package account and privacy terms and plan cooled grate, cap and igniter cleaning.
- CO alarms are a safeguard, not ventilation
- Gas cooking produces combustion pollutants and cooking adds particles, grease and moisture. Maintain listed CO alarms, but do not treat an alarm or hood as proof of safe air.
- No burner claim guarantees an outcome
- BTU input, burner count, grate shape or low-flame name does not guarantee speed, simmer, pan temperature, cooking result, emissions, air quality, safety or reliability.
