Belt, chain, screw or wall mount for your garage
Choose the opener architecture from the actual door, room and service boundaryThe drive label does not tell you whether an opener fits. Door type, measured weight, manual balance, travel, ceiling structure, headroom, side room, noise transmission and service access determine which architectures remain credible.
Door first
Measure the system the opener must move
Record the door type, height, measured or documented weight, track, spring system and hand-operated effort before comparing motors.
- Balance is a prerequisite
- A properly balanced door should remain controllable by hand. An operator must not compensate for damaged tracks, binding hardware or incorrect spring tension.
- HP labels are not weight charts
- Keep HP, HPc and comparable-power language attached to the maker's exact door, rail and duty limits rather than converting it into a universal capacity.
Architecture
Use the room and ownership tradeoff to choose the drive
Belt and chain systems share a ceiling rail, screw systems have distinct speed and maintenance behavior, and wall mounts need compatible torsion-shaft geometry.
- Noise has two paths
- Motor and drive sound matter, but framing, door rollers, hinges and an attached room can transmit more noise than the powerhead.
- Wall mount is a geometry decision
- It frees the ceiling only when shaft extension, side room, door balance, outlet, cable-tension monitoring and automatic lock requirements all fit.

Compare the exact carton and installation
A base price may omit an extension rail, keypad, battery, bulbs, camera recording, lock, vehicle bridge, structural repair or professional labor.
- Retail suffixes matter
- Confirm the model suffix, rail length, remotes, keypad, wall control, battery and lights on the exact carton and manual.
- Service is part of fit
- Parts, batteries, accessory generations, account transfer and trained local support can matter more than a small difference in advertised force.
