Market guide
Choose a dishwasher by opening, racks and household
Start with cabinet fit, dishware, loading habits, utilities and maintenance toleranceA dishwasher starts as a cabinet, plumbing and loading decision. Measure the real opening and door swing, photograph the utilities and test the household's tallest plates, glasses, bowls and cookware against the rack layout before comparing cycle names.
01
Opening
Measure the installed bay
Record height at both front and rear, width, depth, floor build-up, toe kick, adjacent handles and the open-door aisle.
- ADA is an installation branch
- Bosch SGX78C55UC is shorter than a conventional model, but counter, controls, approach and surrounding kitchen still determine accessibility.
- The door needs a room
- A flush panel can still collide with an island, toe kick, trim or adjacent handle. Draw the open door and rack extension.
02
Loading
Use the household's real dishes
Rack count matters less than tine geometry, adjustment range, spray clearance and the objects washed every week.
- Third racks are not interchangeable
- Bosch, KitchenAid and Miele use different depths, adjusters and utensil strategies. Test stemware, bowls and tall plates together.
- Capacity claims need a load plan
- Place settings do not describe stockpots, sheet pans, lunch boxes or plastic storage. Build a representative loading map.
03
Ownership
Choose the care architecture
Compare filter access, disposer or self-cleaning path, detergent and rinse-aid use, drying method, leak controls and local service.
- Automation creates supplies
- Miele AutoDos reduces manual dosing for supported cycles but adds cartridges, refill cost and system cleaning.
- Quietness is contextual
- Cabinet insulation, flooring, fastening, plumbing and load change perceived sound. Treat a published dBA as a test basis, not a silent-room guarantee.
