Separate measured channels and local use from account and internet dependenciesSensor count is only the first comparison. Follow every observation from the outdoor array to its radio, console or gateway, local history, account, cloud dashboard, API and third-party sharing. Each path has a different update interval, failure mode and ownership boundary.
Suite
Compare sensor method, placement and absent channels
List outdoor temperature, humidity, pressure, wind, rain, UV, solar, lightning and every specialty input. Then record whether each sensor is integrated, separately sited, optional or inferred by software.
- Separated sensors can improve exposure
- A modular station can place wind, rain and temperature more appropriately, but it adds mounts, radio links, batteries, compatibility decisions and service points.
- Update intervals are not one number
- Sensor sampling, radio transmission, console refresh, cloud upload and third-party network posting can run at different cadences.
Data
Draw the local and connected paths
A console may show current conditions locally while graphs, alerts, remote access and API calls depend on Wi-Fi, an account and the vendor service. A cloud-first station may have no included household display at all.
- Offline behavior is exact
- Confirm what remains visible and stored during internet, router, cloud and power outages, how cached readings recover and whether exports are available before account closure.
- Sharing reveals household context
- Public maps and third-party integrations can expose approximate location, occupancy patterns and property conditions. Review account, retention and map settings.
Ownership
Price subscription and service with the hardware
The KestrelMet 6000 Cellular has no included household console and adds a carrier-dependent annual data plan after its introductory period. Other stations may provide core cloud access without a required fee but still depend on current service terms.
- Budget replacement parts
- Include batteries, solar or power parts, rain-gauge and wind assemblies, shields, sensor arrays, consoles, gateways, mounts and return freight over the expected ownership period.
- Cloud does not certify observations
- History, alerts, forecasts and network participation do not correct poor exposure or maintenance and do not make the data an official observation.
