Run controlled failure drills
Test the primary alone, backup alone, high-water alarm, AC loss and the actual outlet path without placing people in energized or contaminated water.

- Move and water-test each switch independently through its full travel.
- Flow
- Observe several complete cycles and confirm that water does not recirculate through a failed valve.

Battery
Measure capacity rather than age alone
Inspect polarity, terminals, charger state, ventilation and the manual's supported battery type, then use the specified load test.
- Runtime
- Treat published hours as conditional on battery, head, temperature and duty cycle.
- Replacement
- Record installation date, test results and an evidence-based replacement threshold.

Prove every notification path
Test local sound, dry contact, Wi-Fi, account, internet and phone delivery separately where present.

- Loss of cloud service must not disable local pumping or hide the need for an on-site response plan.
- Safety
