Install, harden and prove the system
Test the actual property before relying on alerts or recordingsCommission every camera through day, night, weather, network interruption and an export exercise while mounts, cable routes, subscriptions and returns can still be changed.
01
Install
Mount for the required image
Set height, aim, field of view, focus, lighting and privacy masks from the real recognition distance rather than the broadest possible scene.
- Building
- Seal penetrations, protect cables, preserve drainage and use qualified help for mains, doorbell and difficult exterior work.
- Tamper
- Keep reachable cameras, cards, reset buttons and exposed cables inside the threat model.
02
Harden
Secure accounts and networks
Change default credentials, enable multifactor authentication, update firmware and recorder software and document administrators and recovery.
- Network
- Segment devices where practical and test the exact local behavior with WAN service unavailable.
- Privacy
- Disable unnecessary audio, recognition, cloud sharing and indoor views, and post required notices.
03
Prove
Run a complete recording exercise
Walk, drive, approach the door and move through every required area in daylight, darkness, rain and bright backlight.
- Retrieve
- Find, protect and export an event before the retention window overwrites it, then verify playback elsewhere.
- Boundary
- A successful test does not guarantee future detection, identity, police response, admissibility, deterrence or safety.
