01

Before the shortlist

The first four answers do most of the work

A useful ranking starts only after the constraints specific to this market are clear.

  1. 01

What temperature, starting humidity, moisture source, air volume and target setpoint define the actual load?

  2. 02

Which current DOE or AHAM capacity rating applies, and is an older larger pint name being used for the same product?

  3. 03

Will water go to a bucket, lower gravity drain or proven pump route, and how will overflow or a failed drain be discovered?

  4. 04

What filter, coil, wet-path, electrical, refrigerant, recall, warranty and service conditions apply?

Market language

The terms a useful comparison should define

Pints per day
A standardized water-removal capacity at a named temperature and humidity, not a guaranteed result in a cooler or less humid room
Gravity drain
A continuous hose path that must remain below the outlet with reliable slope and no trap or freeze condition
Condensate pump
A powered lift path with a stated hose and elevation limit, reservoir, cleaning and failure behavior
Auto defrost
A control that limits coil icing in cooler operation; it does not preserve full warm-test capacity at every temperature
