01

Before the shortlist

The first four answers do most of the work

A useful ranking starts only after the constraints specific to this market are clear.

  1. 01

What is the household's peak-hour hot-water draw, inlet-water temperature and acceptable recovery behavior?

  2. 02

Which 120V shared, 120V dedicated, 240V 15A or conventional 240V circuit can the installation support?

  3. 03

Where will source air, cooled exhaust, compressor sound and continuous condensate go in every season?

  4. 04

Who will handle plumbing, electrical, duct, refrigerant, drain, permit, warranty and local sealed-system service?

Market language

The terms a useful comparison should define

First-hour rating
A standardized estimate of hot water delivered in the first hour from a fully heated tank under named test conditions, not a guarantee for a particular household
UEF
Uniform Energy Factor under a defined DOE test procedure and usage bin; it supports standardized comparison rather than an exact utility-bill prediction
Integrated
A heat pump mounted with the storage tank, exchanging heat with the surrounding or ducted air and producing condensate at the tank location
Split system
A separate heat-pump unit and storage tank connected by water or refrigerant lines, moving source-air, sound and freeze boundaries to different locations
