Choose a cordless stick vacuum by floors, debris and runtime

Start with the home's floors, rugs, stairs, pet hair, cleaning duration, storage and the people who will carry and empty it

A cordless vacuum should be chosen from the home outward. Map hard floor, low- and high-pile carpet, rugs, stairs, furniture gaps, recurring debris and pet hair, then time a normal cleaning route. The useful system is the one each user can steer, carry, empty and maintain with enough loaded battery time.

Home

Map every cleaning surface and obstruction

Record floor materials, carpet pile, rug edges, transitions, stair geometry, furniture clearance, pet beds, vehicle work and where debris gathers. One floorhead rarely has the same pickup, steering and protection behavior everywhere.

Separate carpet and hard-floor work
Dyson V15 Detect includes distinct optic hard-floor and Motorbar heads, while Shark PowerDetect and Samsung Bespoke AI Jet Ultra use dual-roller mixed-floor approaches. Test head changes, edge reach and rug behavior rather than assuming one architecture wins every surface.
Use recurring debris, not a showroom sample
List fine dust, crumbs, cereal, litter, long hair and embedded pet hair separately. A high airflow or pickup score under one debris and floor protocol cannot guarantee complete removal in the home.

Runtime

Time the route under a powered head

Measure how long an ordinary route takes with the intended powered floorhead, mode, carpet load and pauses. Compare that with independent loaded runtime rather than a maximum measured with a non-motorized tool.

Maximum minutes are conditional
Gen5detect and V15 publish long Eco figures but independent high-power results can be single-digit minutes. Auto boost, dense carpet, clogged filters, cold storage and battery age change usable time.
Price the exact battery system
Record included battery count, whether the pack is removable, charge time, cooling instructions, genuine replacement SKU and charger. Two batteries help only when both can be charged, stored and replaced safely.

People

Fit carrying, emptying and storage to the users

Test assembled weight at the hand, wrist angle, trigger or button, wand length, stair use, overhead reach, bin release and the force needed to detach every tool. Include dock or wall-mount access and a safe charging location.

Automation moves maintenance
PowerDetect and Bespoke docks reduce direct emptying but add a larger bin or bag, seals, filters, powered transfer path and floor footprint. They reduce a step rather than eliminating dust and cleaning work.
Keep health and cleaning claims bounded
A vacuum, filter, particle display or dock does not guarantee a clean floor, allergen reduction, pet-hair removal, comfortable use or reliable battery life. Fine-dust handling may warrant outdoor emptying or another exposure plan.
