Match coverage, output and bass
Choose the loudspeaker branch from the room and programA wattage figure or frequency endpoint cannot size a PA. Start with audience geometry, listening distance, source material, headroom and placement, then decide whether a compact battery box, conventional top or column system fits.
Geometry
Map listeners and loudspeaker positions
Record room width and depth, outdoor exposure, stage and microphone locations, front-row distance, obstructions and where stands can be placed safely.
- Coverage
- Use stated angles as a starting point and test the actual audience area at working level.
- Column
- A portable column is not a flown line array and still depends on correct height and vertical orientation.
Output
Keep claims attached to their method
Maximum SPL, peak and continuous watts use different definitions across manufacturers. They do not create an audience-size or loudness ranking without a common test.
- Headroom
- Speech, acoustic music, DJ playback and live drums require different crest factor and low-frequency headroom.
- Limiter
- Onboard limiting protects within a design but does not guarantee clean coverage or hearing safety.
Bass
Treat low-frequency work as a separate requirement
A low frequency endpoint does not show usable kick, bass or DJ output at the required level. Test the program and decide whether a supported subwoofer path belongs in the system.
- Expansion
- Verify crossover, output, polarity and mounting rather than assuming any subwoofer is a complete match.
- Proof
- Run representative microphones and program material in a comparable room before the return period ends.
