Algorithm, firmware and backup
Settings, updates, battery and pre-dive checks around the computerA current computer can change through firmware. A conservative setting can differ between buddies. A battery can be full on land and still be part of a weak trip plan. The purchase includes an operating routine.
Algorithm
Understand the setting before changing it
Bühlmann gradient factors and manufacturer decompression models can produce different profiles. Keep team settings aligned and change them only through appropriate training and planning.
- Record
- Save the current algorithm and conservatism setting.
- Buddy
- Discuss differences before entering the water.
Firmware
Update with time to verify the computer
Read release notes, charge the device, install the update and review settings before travel. Do not discover a reset or new interface on the boat.
- Before diving
- Confirm gases, units, alarms, transmitter and compass.
- After update
- Use a controlled check before relying on new behavior.
Backup
A failure plan should be boring
Follow certification, operator and team procedures for depth, time, pressure and decompression status if the primary computer fails. A second computer must have shared the same exposure history.
- Battery
- Know recharge and field-replacement options.
- Service
- Record pressure-test, seal and repair requirements.
