Mode
Compare the exact sensor readout
A camera can use different active areas, line times and processing paths across open-gate, full-width, crop and high-frame-rate modes. A result from one mode cannot be applied to all of them.
- Motion
- Use independent rolling-shutter measurements for the intended resolution and frame rate.
- Latitude
- Separate manufacturer claims from a documented test threshold and exposure method.
Codec
Model the full recording and post path
Raw, intraframe and long-GOP formats create different card, offload, CPU, proxy and archive loads. A lower data rate can still need a more demanding decoder.
- Support
- Confirm the exact codec, metadata and color pipeline in the editing and finishing software.
- License
- Keep temporary or permanent recording licenses in both capability and cost comparisons.
Media
Calculate a real production day
Use the selected mode and shooting ratio to estimate cards, readers, transfer time, checksums, working storage and backup. Variable-rate formats need margin.
- Redundancy
- Decide whether the camera records redundant copies or the crew must create them after each card.
- Throughput
- Test sustained media and reader performance with the actual workstation before the first job.
